Original Phonautograph in Teyler’s Museum in Haarlem Netherlands

While vacationing in the Netherlands my wife and I spent a few days in Haarlem. We visited Teyler’s scientific museum and we were delighted to find an original Phonautograph and original Kämmer&Reinhart gramophone with original horn case and original record case with 30 original records, amongst the amazing collection of 18th and 19th century scientific instruments.

It is a top attraction in the town of Haarlem, outside Amsterdam. (The town where the Ten Boom house is located - the family that hid many Jewish families from the Nazi’s in WWII that ‘The Hiding Place’ movie was based on.) Teyler’s museum was established in 1778 featuring the house and collection of Pieter Teyler. They have the most amazing collection of early scientific instruments, art and prehistoric fossils. It is definitely worth the visit if you are in Amsterdam. An easy day trip from Amsterdam - 15 min from Amsterdam.

I wonder how this has eluded the phono collecting world? I looked at the museum's website, and the only info about the phonautograph was:
Rudolph Koenig, Parijs and Production date 1865. (Parijs is Dutch for Paris).
Wikipedia says Rudolph Koenig was born in Konigsberg, Prussia. Too bad Allen Koenigsberg isn't still alive to see this. Check out the Wikipedia page below:

The existence of this example has been known for some time.
JP Agnard makes reference to it in his current article, same topic, p. 22, The Antique Phonograph, March 2026.

Wow-- I'd love to go to that museum one day-- But the Corrie Ten Boom home would be high on my list as well. She was an incredible person with an amazing ministry.

Indeed, the story of Corrie Ten Boom, and the horrific suffering and losses she endured at the hands of the Nazis, is made all the more incredible by her forgiveness, compassion and understanding after the war.
