Not all originals, but some VERY nice items indeed !

We photographed a lot of items at Brady's house back in 2000 which appeared in Discovering Antique Phonographs. Brady's quite a character and had a liking for drama. He'd take you for a tour of the house, which was a 1-story ranch containing lots of nice items. Then, when you'd think you had seen it all, he'd take you down the basement stairs, which opened to the right into a large room crammed full of talking machines. Some wonderful stuff, along with some hokey 50s/60s "restorations." After you'd digested the contents of that room - thinking that this fellow certainly has a large and varied collection of very nice phonographs - he'd say, "Why don't you open that door over there?" When you did, you realized that you'd only seen half the basement, and another large room full of machines awaited. Brady enjoyed showing his collection (as most of us do), and really enjoyed the looks on the faces of his visitors as each door opened revealing still more.

Wow. Thanks a bunch for putting up the links to this auction. I just burned off the past 45 minutes scrolling through the pics. As noted, there are some ghastly creations in there (some of those kerosene hanging fixtures look like somebody trying to use up stray parts found around their shop). But, looking past that, there is just some very cool stuff there. The parts inventory was startling----and I dare say we haven't seen all of the stuff to be sold just in these copious pics. What an amazing collection.

Wow....just wow....What an amazing collection of items. I would actually pass on the Victor VI in this auction. The Keen-o-phones....and the Regina music boxes caught my fancy.

The spectacular "Black Forest" model caught my eye at once. Its unique handcarved style somehow reminds me to Rene's "folkloristic" tinfoil phonograph and I would prefer it to nearly everything in Brady's collection.

Could you examine the "Black Forest" model during your photo session? I don't remember to have seen it in your books.

No, I don't remember the "Black Forest" machine either. It may have been downtown in the museum. We never saw the museum.

Do you think it's original...? I don't think so... I believe it's made from parts from other gramophones/phongraphs and the case is self-made...
The horn looks like an usual horn, the back bracket looks Pathé, the motor isn't in the middle and so on... I really don't think it's original (just as the "barrel-gramophone"... Maybe from a handy carpenter ?
