Interesting record cabinet - Look!

Here's an interesting record cabinet that I picked up in Dubuque, Iowa on my way to Union. You can see how tall it is compared to the machines on either side. Was it intended to have a machine on top or was in just record storage? Any ideas? Thanks, Jerry Blais

What's the interior like?
It almost looks home made- mostly because of the blanked off front panels either side of the door, and the position of the eschuteon & doorknob. Is there some sort of mechanical action that allows you to store discs behind the panels but still get to them?
I cant image a horn machine being on top of a cabinet so high. I think it would suit a small electric record player better?

The cabinet opens to the right. The door consists of two thirds of the front and one third of the right side. It pivots revealing individual felt covered shelves. When open, it takes up the same space as closed. My basement is getting too full and it's difficult to display items to their best advantage. Jerry

that's your basement? nice. and that's a great 8-8. I've got a cabinet for one, and all the parts at this point to complete the project, but haven't been able yet to set aside the time. seeing one complete is definitely motivation though.

My wife, DeeDee, is a retired public music teacher so I collected machines that would have been used in the classroom. It's a collection within a collection. Jerry

Nice record cabinate Jerry. I have to say, I also really enjoy seeing shots of entire collections like this. You get a sense of scale that you can't ever get with single machine shots. For example, the scale of that Victor O is really clarified next to the Victor VI. You've got some nice pieces in the background!

I don't think it looks home built at all. Its definitely interesting though.
By the way...is that a flat top pooley I see in the background? If so, would you be willing to share a few pictures of it?

How interesting! I checked the old thread and it looks like a similar cabinet was available in the same town. The one pictured in the earlier thread has a different pull and appears to have been refinished. Jerry Blais
