What type of reproducer is this

I picked up this reproducer and really don't know what it is. It fits on and plays in Edison cylinder machines, or is it a recorder of some sort. Thanks for any help you may have.

That is strictly a reproducer, and not a recorder, from a dictating machine such as Ediphone or Dictaphone. Cylinder dictating machines had a very long history and I will bet there are a number of reproducer models.

I never thought of that. I appreciate the info. It does work pretty well on a Standard player.
