Victor Credenza priced at $600.00. When i called about it, I was told it needs a new spring. The guy says it was working until he moved it. Says he's had it about 30 yrs. He is 5 hrs away from me so that is a 10+ hr round trip. I can't decide if this is even something I should consider. He said he would take $500.00 to help pay for the gas. Price includes several record albums but not the originals. Any opinions?

any other issues? how's the reproducer? any photos?

it's not a terrible price if, aside from the spring, all else is ok.

He says everything else is good but, who knows. He says it has original finish in good shape, no breaks in any of the metal parts and plating is good. Here is a link to the pictures but I don't know if you will be able to tell anything from the. He has had it listed for awhile.

Brian's ques is a good one. Find out if it has a brass reproducer. If so, it is not a bad price.

I'm assuming it doesn't have a brass reproducer as the pictures show the turntable is not in the middle making this a later model?

The cabinet looks to be in fair condition. I've seen Credenzas lately selling for much less. With a broken spring I would only offer $350 tops. If the reproducer is wrong, or in bad shape $250 to $300...

The price of $500 isn't too bad, but it needs repair. What shape is the grille cloth in?

Credenzas aren't hard to find, though maybe this isn't the case where you live.

I have to agree with newneedle. Offer him less. If he says "no", he might agree later. At any rate, if this one gets away you will definitely come across another sooner or later.

I think you should ask him to email you more pictures, showing closeups of the tonearm, reproducer, grille cloth and anything else you want to see. If you like what you see you may want to dicker more on price but if that should be a brass reproducer, GO FOR IT!
A brass reproducer alone can be worth most of that money. BTW: a potmetal reproducer would be correct on that machine.

A tip off to a brass reproducer, should you be so lucky, is 7 of the tear-drop shaped holes in the front instead of the 9 used on the later pot metal ones. Don't think I've seen a brass reproducer on one of the 4-door machines, though. Usually (always?) the brass ones are only on the early 2-door models.

I've got an early 4-door (13839) that came with a brass reproducer, I have every reason to think it's the original.
