For what machine were these early Victor records altered?

Hi all! Below I have posted a link to a single lot of 15 early (approximately 1905 to 1915) Victor records curently offered on eBay. Every one of them has a greatly inlarged center "spindle hole". Does anyone know for what machine these records were permanently altered to fit?

Thanks!

They were probably altered to play on a Standard Talking Machine.

If the records weren't ruined (well, not ruined, but I'm tired of trying to get records with enlarged spindle holes to play properly, and I don't want any more), and the opening bid wasn't 3 times what it should be, I'd actually like to have them.
