Michigan Summer 1942 with a bit of a quiz.

Here's a seasonal ad from the Grinnell Bros Music House own monthly record brochure of August 1942.
Grinnell was a midwestern institution and an early Victor dealer and jobber. They went under in the 70's I believe. But in their heyday the were the pride of the midwest ( with a couple of outlets in southwestern Ontario too.) This ad is so " Grosse Point": the ritzy suburb on Lake St Clair.
Ten points for spotting what's wrong with the ad. :D

Looks to me like the tone arm either is, or is about to be, placed on the wrong side of the record. That, and the fact that it looks like they're listening to the phono at the very edge of a tennis court, which seems like a great place to get clobbered by an errant ball or racket.

The image was inverted, I'm pretty sure. When I clicked on the image to view it full size, it looks like the "Grinnell" logo on the record compartment is backwards:

I'm wondering where the crank is? Perhaps they blanked out the hole?

Ten points to Ortho-Fan :clover: In the original the Grinnell logo in the lid was as backwards as the tone arm. And they've eliminated the crank unless it has an electric motor. But on the original you can just see what might be a blanked out spot where the crank escutcheon should be.
