There is some information about them in Sherman's "Collector's Guide to Victor Records." Apparently they were brought out in 1906 as a replacement for the earlier 7 inch records that had not sold well and taughted as having better sound. The were dropped in 1909 as the public’s preference for 10 and 12 inch records became clear. I don’t know what the production volume might have been.
