It is very attractive, though I'm pretty sure that's an arm from a 1940's portable. A lot of these small machines had pot metal arms that broke, or were often detachable and got lost.

I wouldn't call this a crapophone, looks more like an old make-do repair.

I wouldn't call it a crap-o-phone either. Looks like just the tonearm/sound box was replaced.

There are photos on this page -- http://www.nadeausauction.com/lotdetails/?lot=93999 -- which show what look to be the original tone arm & sound box.
