Years ago I bought a Vic V that has been completely brush painted gold. It was not a quality paint job. It looked like someone handed the painter a paint brush and a quart of gold paint and said " you've got five minutes to paint this". I stripped the cabinet and nickeled parts but before I stripped the horn, someone suggested I use lacquer thinner to remove recent paint from old paint. I tried it and it worked. It did remove most of the gold striping but the black paint was untouched. I hadn't thought about it until I purchased a wood grained metal horn that had paint splotches all over it. I used a Q tip and lacquer thinner and it worked. The wood graining was untouched. Always test in an inconspicuous area.


CAUTION!!!! Always wear rubber gloves when working with lacquer thinner. ALWAYS!!!
