Hello all,

So, the pot metal tone arm bracket on my Victrola 8-35 needs to be replaced. I know that the Smiths used to sell these tone arm brackets, but apparently someone else is selling them now. Is it a 2" bracket that I need to replace it?

See here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-Orthophonic-V ... 0841019399

Is this the right item? Your help and input is immensely appreciated!

Yes, that's the right one. By the way, the ebay seller is the guy who bought the Smith's casting business.

Not necessarily for this one, but in general, for reproducers and parts his prices seem very high...among other items, he's listed a nickel plated brass ortho reproducer for $500 and brass Victor No. 4 for $225! I know these are rebuilt, but still...

Adam,

I completely agree. The prices are unbelievably high. He has nearly $300 on an RCA Victor bronze reproducer. I think I gave $130 for mine, including shipping, and even that was a little on the high end. If the guy can sell items at these prices, more power to him, but I am not going to pay them.

On an aside, the bracket this man is selling is about 15-20% higher than what the Smiths used to sell it for, apparently. Whatever. I really need one to get my project done, so I'm gonna pay it. However, since he has at least a somewhat captive audience on the reproduction parts, he can get away with it to some extent.
