I have a few front-loading turntables... they're great for saving space.

But I've ALWAYS wanted a vertical turntable. When I come across one, they're always hundreds of dollars, too much $.

...now there's this...

You can get one around $60... I won't be buying it, but I think it would be a good conversation starter for young people. :-) The general consensus in the comments section of the article that that they wouldn't put their vinyl collection near this thing.

I'd consider buying one of those for the kitchen

That'd be a disaster for 78's. You'd need a lock to screw ontop of the record (like what they had for the really old front-mounts) just to use it, and what if the record's warped :?:

Well, it isn't planned for 78's- so that's somewhat moot...

Now, there WAS a vertical 78 turntable, the Watchtower Portable. Instead of a tone arm it uses a sliding diaphragm arrangement- must be hard on records, but that probably wasn't important at the time.
