Two uses for Styrofoam coolers

This summer I got two packages of steaks in strong styrofoam coolers. Since then, I have found 2 good uses for these:

1) Temporary record storage - one of the coolers is just a bit over 10 inches wide and makes a good holder for 78's. I don't think I'd use this long term, but it was very handy recently when I needed to empty out a lot of old paper albums that had gotten cruddy.

2) Working area for rebuilding motors. Use the sides of the cooler to support the motorboard. This raises the motor up and makes it easier to work on, plus the cooler part will catch screws and small parts that fall. Styrofoam is unlikely to damage finishes too!

Of course this won't work with the "dollar store" coolers, the styrofoam has to be pretty thick, but try these the next time you're going to toss out a cooler!

or you could recycle them, if not avoid styrofoam all together.
