I'm new to forum, so excuse me if I have posted to the wrong place. I have a four spring VV-XVI motor that seems to play fine, as long as I can keep the set screw on the collar between the two spring barrels tight. It continually works loose. It doesn't seem stripped, but it just doesn't keep the two barrels "connected". When it works loose, of course you can't wind the spring. I'm not sure if the set screw should be flat on the bottom like mine is, or if it should lock into something, I just don't know why it doesn't hold consistently. Any help would be apreciated.

On the arbor shaft...the long steel rod that goes through all the spring barrels, there is a hole which the set screw actually threads into and tightens. Sounds like your arbor shaft might need to be rotated or reversed so that the set screw fits into the hole on the shaft.

Thanks for the information. I checked and both of the set screws on this motor board are flat on the bottom and I cannot see any hole for them to attach to the arbor shaft. Looks like someone may have had trouble with this before. Its working presently, but I am afraid to wind it to tight or one of the screws will start slipping once again. I notice that the two collars do not turn in sync with each other. Are they supposed to?? If so, then they may still be slipping. Can I remove the shaft without disassembling the spring barrels?? If so, I will do so and replace the screws with the correct ones.
