Wish I could attend. How about a promo for the Canadian Antique Phonograph Society. What is the cost? What are the benefits such as a newsletter? Where are the meetings? I'm interested. Thanks, Jerry Blais

Oliver spoke at our California Antique Phonograph Society meeting in October 1987. It was a month off, but he signed the back of my earliest Berliner disc with a red wax crayon: "Looking forward to seeing you sometime in the next century!/Oliver Berliner/November '87" -- 100 years from his grandfather's patent.

Just got home from the meeting. Oliver Berliner was a delightful speaker: very witty and he knows how to engage an audience. His talk was fascinating and I was pleased that he spoke at length about the Berliner Gramophone Co of Montreal and its relationship with RCA and David Sarnoff...about whom he told some interesting and rather candid anecdotes. He also threw a new light on the feud between Herbert Berliner( who was acting President of the Berliner Gramophone Co in Montreal ) and his father Emile: at one point they actually came to blows! But he opens as many issues as he solves on that front. And don't mention Thomas A Edison around Oliver!

I'm kidding, but in short he was charming beyond measure and I was
very very pleased to speak to him. I was dying to ask him more about the " Battling Brothers" ..Herbert and Oliver's father Edgar....but I didn't think it was quite the forum to do so.
And damned if I didn't forget my camera so I was reduced to a crummy Blackberry image. Here he is signing a copy of The Victor Data Book for one of the CAPS members.
