This ad must date from 1912-13 when Victor and Edison were going head to head and competing to sign up Vaudeville stars. This made for interesting recordings , I have to say. After about 1914 the companies fell into the routine of using artists who were primarily recording artists for the popular repertoire. Easier for them: known quantities who had the drill of the recording studio down pat, but not quite as much fun for we collectors. This is a generalization and there were exceptions of course, like Lauder and Jolson and Nora Bayes who had extensive discographies. It wasn't until around 1920 that the stage artists reappeared in volume in the catalogues: Fanny Brice, Eddie Cantor, and so forth.

That's plainly Lauder top left, is the woman Nora Bayes? I'm guessing that's Montgomery & Stone on the bottom.

I think the woman is Christie MacDonald. She was from Pictou, Nova Scotia..and she created several roles in Victor Herbert operettas.
