I'm a newbie here and definately no authority on anything related to our hobby but I'm trying. This morning I ran across this doosey of a listing on everyones favorite auction website and spoted a little problem with it.

After I stopped laughing I got another cup of coffee and emailed the seller to explaine why he really shouldn't play Edison records on his Victor Victrola. The reply I received was "Thanks for the info but they sound just fine to me." You can lead the horse to water...

Sounds ok to him because he keeps the records inside the cabinet where the "storage slats" are as he says in the ad. If he does that, it is no wonder he can't hear how horrible it would sound and I'll bet the needle is in just as great of shape as the Edison records he plays are. Funny.

Its funny and its not funny... the sad part is these people play these records one time with a steel needle and they are ruined and should be trashed. I had a antique dealer tell me you buy one them victrola's and put a big ole' edison on there, he said if you wanna sell em you put a thick edison on there... i cringe i can always remember him saying that.

I have met a number of people like that. They can't imagine that someone knows more than they do.
