Send an email to Michael Child, he makes the best needles in my opinion, they are almost identical to original Victor needles. I bought 10,000 last time I ordered. He is in the UK, so shipping is a bit more, but it still ends up being worth it.

Doesn't APSCO & a dozen other places sell loud tone needles in packs of 1000?

I buy all of my needles from Walt Sommers of Gettysburg Antique Phonographs. He has rebuilt all of my reproducers. I know that he sells 300 (soft, medium or loud) for $12.75 with free shipping. That's how I buy them but you can get whatever quantity you need.
He can be found at http://www.victrolaguy.com or by e-mail to: [email protected].

Dwayne Wyatt has a good price on bulk needles. I think I paid $22 for the last 1000 I bough, but that's been a couple of years ago. Haven't been playing many records since back on the road full-time, so prices may have increased. I am intrigued by this British needles with the proper taper.

Those needles Mike Child sells (at least the half tones) look and sound EXACTLY like the Victors of the teens and twenties. I'll be giving him my business after I run out of my NOS Victors, which may be a decade or longer

is there really that much of a difference between those and the bryophonic and similar ones that are more typically sold at the shows and online?

I use Bry-O-Phonic needles from Martin Bryan: The New Amberola Phono Co., 213 Caledonia St., St. Johnsbury, VT 05819-2477 (802-748-9264). That is, if he is still in business. My last order was some years ago. I think he posts here occasionally. On 3/17/05 I ordered 5,000 soft-tone needles from him, cost $89.50. They come in packets of 100 needles. I also have medium and loud from Martin, but I rarely use them.

Yes. I've used both, and the Mike Child needles are superior. Plus, he sells 4 types: Extra soft, soft, medium and loud. His extra soft are like other dealer's soft. I use his soft which is an intermediate needle other dealers don't offer.
Many years ago I bought a bunch of Bry-O-Phonics directly from Martin, but since I started using the Mike Child needles, the Bry-O-Phonics have languished unused.
When purchased in bulk, the Mike Child needles are an excellent value, even when shipping from the UK is considered.

I concur with Michael Child's needles being the best of the new-production needles. I have used his medium tones for several years. Actually they are identical in conformation and tone not to Victor, but to HMV, half-tone needles of the vintage era.
