I am trying to spruce up the finish of the inside of the lid with SHELLAC, where the decal is. It is safe to go over the decal with shellac, or the does the shellac desolved the decal, which I am afraid of. Please let me know if it is safe to go over it.

Is the original finish shellac?

If so, there's probably a coat or two already on top of the decal. It's when you're trying to remove old finish that's the problem....
