I've never owned more than my 2 wonderful table-top Victor Victrolas (Models VV-IV & VV-VI) I have and will continue to focus my collecting on Early (pre-1908) Victor Records. However..., it's amazing what can happen when one comes into a small bit of money earmarked "just for fun". I have secretly dreamed of owning an open works machine (disk or cylinder) but I've always thought that they were EXTREMELY rare and pricey. Your feedback to a recent thread I started on this subject sparked a tiny glimmer of hope that I too may one day be able to own one.
Well it's happened! I rarely get excited about "things" but this purchase still has me mesmerized. I've had it about 2 weeks but I still catch myself just sitting and looking at the thing with fascination from across the room.
Ladies & Gentlemen, I bring to you the newest addition to my small, modest, talking machine family. A warm welcome please for my very early Columbia Type B "Eagle", Serial Number 98113.

The Columbia Eagle is one of my favorites, they are pretty common but very cool machines! Good luck!

The plain Eagle is fairly common, but getting one with a case is a significant step up. Very Nice!!

Congratulations! I've always thought that the Eagle is a very interesting machine. Be sure to send the particulars to George Paul. Jerry Blais

Hi Phonohound! Might that be a Type B that was outfitted to be used for exhibitions? The custom fitted case seems to contain everything needed for the fledgling entrepreneur of 1899.phonohound wrote:I like Graphophones as well and try to collect the unusual. I'd like to share this exhibitor's Eagle in a special carrying case with homemade crane, crank, horn, and storage compartment. The case even has a flap that folds down over the compartment to act as a table.
Pretty ingenious.

Hi VictorFan;
Yes, exactly my point when I said Exhibitor. It is great that some of these one-offs still exist, taking the ordinary to the extraordinary. The machine plays great and is fairly loud.

I can only judge from the pictures and hope I am wrong, but the ensemble doesn't look like it was created 100 years ago.phonohound wrote:I like Graphophones as well and try to collect the unusual.
