Has anyone tried cutting Kessler Shellac from 3 pound to 1 pound? I've used this stuff long long time agoas a base for Deft lacquer but don't recall the "Do Not Thin" on the back of the can. TIA

I've scrapped the thining idea and ordered some dewaxed shellac flakes like I used to. I'll just mix my own.

I use shellac thinned 3 to one with denatured alcohol to overcoat a finish that I have de -waxed and cleaned and let dry well. I think the Ace carries Zinsser brand but watch to be sure its not past date. It may take two thin coats over a finish. If your starting from scratch it probably takes 5 or more to start to get the depth of finish you want. Then is has to be rubbed down with whiting and baby oil to get it toned down for waxing.
