One of my all-time favorite records, which I bought about 10 years ago, back when eBay was fun (but, no, I didn't steal this one). I transferred it soon after, but I did a
much better job today, it deserved it.

Thanks for posting these transfers here. My iMac with QuickTime Player can't read the .ra files on the Red Hot Jazz site.

I never found the sound files on the Red Hot Jazz site particularly listenable, even in the olden days of the '90s they sounded bad! And Real Audio was always giving me problems. In any case, I think those transfers were pirated from various commercial releases and tremendously compressed.
Glad you enjoyed these! Now I just need an E+ copy...

Some of the best jazz ever! Thanks for posting these scarce records. A few of Allen's Victor sides can be found as later pressings on Bluebird but even those don't turn up very often.
Excellent transfers. What audio transfer/cleaning software do you use?

Jim, these were relatively clean on their own (a bit of groove wear in the second tune notwithstanding). I use ClickRepair and DeNoise relatively conservatively. The most important factor in transfers, however, is the proper stylus and EQ. For these I used 2.8 mil TE and 2.3 mil TE styli, respectively, and the E5 setting on my KAB Vintage Signal Processor.

Thank you, Adam for posting them - especially as downloadable .mp3 files. It is a real treat to the ears compared to the poor audio codec almost everybody uses with YouTube.

Glad you liked them, Norman.
I have a few that Victoria Spivey recorded with this band, and should post them as well; but I need to redo a couple of those first.
