I am in the process of down sizing furnishings in my house. Is there someone that might like to have an old Victor III morning glory horn phonograph. It is all original and several years ago while it was in for lubrication by a professional restorer he gave me a written appraisal for a very high value.

A couple readers that probably understand the value more than I do indicated my original asking price was too much for the museum quality Victor III. With this new revelation I am now considering the best offer over $1500. e-mail [email protected]

After the Orlando show we spent some time seeing the sights of Florida. One of the great attractions is the Edison & Ford winter homes. It was a wonderful visit and the museum was full of unusual phonographs. But even a novice collector would notice numerous phono errors such as misidentified machines or mismatched horns. We paid a little extra for a guided tour and the guide demonstrated an Amberola V and played a Blue Amberol cylinder. While the record was playing he talked about the machine using a "steel" needle to play the" wax" record. When talking about the light bulb, he talked about Edison "inventing" the light bulb. Edison more accurately "perfected" the light bulb. I guess what I'm leading to is what is the definition of "museum quality"? Jerry Blais

I guess the common (mis)conception of "museum quality" is something that is exceptionally well-preserved and worthy of display. However, I have seen a lot of technical museum pieces that I would not bother to bring home, much less display in my living room. "Museum quality" is a relative term, like "rare" on eBay.
