None of us would be here discussing our favourite topic without Thomas Edison, who would have been 165 today!

I second Happy birthday at 3am on February 11th ( will be asleep as I have to be at work by 8am

Wanted to share my favorite Edison drawing, the vampire light bulb from 1879 . Sadly for you conformists, which Edison never belonged to, (many of you who love phonographs would be yelling at him) It is impossible as perpetual motion!!!) We goths consider him a grandfather of that subculture. Edison thought outside the box, he loved Victor Hugo and Poe, and loved to play music backwards, and was the first to publish Frankenstein in movie form and that is just a start. Anyway, I thank Mr. Edison for being outside the box, and the 1093 patents and the who know how many other odd non patented inventions!!!
Happy Birthday Mr. Edison!!!!!

Not to burst any one’s bubble here ‘bout ol’ Tommy E, but he
DID NOT invent the light bulb.
As any one who lives north of the 49th parallel knows, Edison
purchased the light bulb patent from a Canadian inventor.

Ol’ Tommy boy was just some Johnny-Come-Lately that exploited other people’s ideas with mountains of cash ... which he was quite renowned to do.
I guess that’s a reality we’ll never see mentioned in the Smithsonian Museum.
(What a !@$#$ he was)

Recordo----you are correct and I support wholeheartedly your intentions for doing so, but this "man" is not worthy of any dignified response. He just wants attention.

It clearly states in the article that Woodward's contraption, although a precursor, could not
be considered a functional light bulb.

Happy birthday TA.... From a fellow that was born and raised in New Jersey where Mr. Edison had plants in West Orange, Newark, Menlo Park, etc. and where he put thousands of people to work. What a concept - inventing things and then manufacturing them right here in the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA! Not in China like Apple...... Ouch, sorry......
