Berliner Breakdown

Can anyone offer insight as to why this Berliner sold for $7,856.56? Earlier in the month, a brass horn model sold for $2026, although it didn't meet the reserve. I find this category of the hobby confusing. Berliners are all over the place, but I do know that the earlier the better.

Good clean Berliners are hard to come by. The machine (1899) that just sold was nice and untouched. Just the crank was incorrect. The other "UK" model that did not meet reserve had many, many issues. It was a post 1901 model that someone made into a side brake or pre-1900 model. Clearly the two (filled) brake holes could be seen in the top corner. Even a Ebayer brought this to the sellers attention and although he posted the info, he still made it seem it was a side brake model. That attitude will put buyers off and on top of the issues mentioned.....2K was where it went and reserve not met.
