Salter Record Cabinet

I'm all but finished with my Salter cabinet. It was in a previous thread but the inside was not finished. I wish I had an "as found" photo but I don't. Like many of my projects, I get a couple of days into the work before I take a first photo. When I bought the cabinet the claw feet had been replaced with bun feet and the rear support was a 2x4 on edge. The fancy pull had been removed and all the insides were missing. I suspect the cabinet was repurposed sometime when claw feet and fancy pulls were not popular. Also, it had been refinished in a brown color that obscured all the grain. A friend, who is a master carver, duplicated the correct claw feet. A local business recast the pull from a original. It is so perfect I had to ask which was the original. A friend and I built the insides and I refinished the cabinet. Jerry Blais

Great job Jerry. I have the same record cabinet as this. There were originally two small needle cups nailed to the inside edge of the door. I cannot tell from your pictures if yours are there, but if they are not, I could make a pattern and take some pictures of them if you are interested. I could give them to you at Union. Let me know

Here's a photo of the original type pull and the replacement. The cost was a bargain at $75. If a service like this is not available in your area, I'd be happy to provide the name and number of the business in Oregon. Jerry (don't ask which one is original and which is new... I don't remember)

Beautiful cabinet Jerry,
You did an outstanding job at putting it back correctly. The color looks spot on for a mahogany cabinet. That must hold... what, 210 records?
Very cool,
Best,
