Well, I have been bitten by the phonograph bug out of the blue. Just hit me in the past week or so. Kind of obsessed with the one I just had to buy and am restoring. Can't seem to think about anything else but gramophones and Lena Horne singing the blues.

About 4 days ago, my wife picks up a rental movie on the way home. She picked it out. It was "Bag of Bones" by Stephen king where a phonograph is prominently featured in the plot of the movie.

If you've seen the movie, you know why my wife is freaking out. I really feel for her but all I can wonder is, "What type of phonograph is that in the movie?".

Anyone know what it is? As for the wife, she'll get over it once she is sure I haven't murdered a blues singer.

I have not seen the movie but I did a search for "bag of bones phonograph" and it took me to Youtube. They say it was intended to be a replica made for the movie. So is the movie two thumbs up? Jerry

I've been a selective Stephen King fan. The only movies of his books I have really liked so far is "The Shining" and "Thinner" but, "bag of Bones" was a made for TV A&E special I think. I really liked it compared to othe movies made from his writings.

If you like the 1930's and a good murder mystery you'll like Bag of Bones. The shots with the phonograph in it biased me towards this movie though. It is not set in the 1930's but flashes back to it for a large portion of the movie plot.

here is a link on youtube to a clip with the movie's phonograph in it. Other parts of the movie have it in more detail but this is the only video I can find it in. It cuts away from the player but comes back to it a couple seconds later. This is not the promotional package player but the one used in the movie.

I found a version of the whole show with Spanish subtitles -- http://www.youtube.com/user/leyzer1000/ ... g+of+bones

In any event, I did a few screen captures and lightened them to show more detail.

Hard to tell exactly what it might be; perhaps a Columbia table top with mix and match parts, or more likely, an off brand model. The sound box dates from the late 1920s/early 1930s, while the tonearm looks like a Victor style goose-neck --pre 1925. (The lid is definitely not Victor.)

Do you know if there were any scenes showing the front of the phonograph?

I talking about Phonography NOT Por.........

On the movie I rented from redbox the first scene from the movie shows the phonograph playing in daylight from the top of the cabinet. It also is shown in detail in the movie in at least one scene under good light with the turntable and all the parts.

I thought it might be a non-working hodgepodge of parts thrown together just for a movie prop.
