New to the forum, so unsure of protocol - there's no sticky to get info.

I'm looking for any Romanian music you might have on shellac, preferably from obscure labels - HMV or Columbia accepted.

Cheers!

Hi Vorbeste (fitting name btw :),

Yes, I'm very interested in early recordings.

Could you send me a list of the titles & performers and pictures of the labels?

I have alot of Victors that have foreign writing on them. I couldn't tell you what they are. What does a roman 78 look like? Photo and i'll compare. I think some of mine are jewish but there are others.

Hi EdisonPhonographGuy,

Romanian uses the Roman alphabet - not Cyrillic - so any records you might have should be easily read in English (phonetically at least).

I would imagine any Romanian recording would actually have a mention of its nationality on the label, be considered "gypsy" music (a good deal of recorded Romanian artists back then were fiddlers) or simply have a last name that ends with "-escu" or "-eanu".

Some artists from that period are Maria Tanase, Nicholas Matthey, Nusha Doina, Zavaidoc, Dorel Livianu, Josef Cristea, Ion Luican, Fanica Luca, Jean Moscopol.

Here's hoping you might have recordings of any of the above (if not, thanks anyway)!

Cheers,
Andrei
