An alternate recording with the 1928 Duke Ellington Orchestra, featuring an extended Bubber Miley solo. I presume the vocalists from the Okeh session were dropped so that the public wouldn't know it was a black band under a pseudonym perhaps?

Nope, you have a different record to mine. Ellington was a keen businessman, so after he had recorded the official Okeh side (from which your Parlophone was pressed), he took his band to Pathé and did the same song anonymously in order to maximise revenue. I've attached the relevant section from Rusts' Jazz Discography for you.

Thanks! It's a while since I've listened to mine but from memory the versions sound fairly close.

No worries! Obviously Ellington ditched the scat singing which would have immediately given it away as a race record. I'd just love to hear these alternate versions of the Okeh ones now!
