right, looks like a II/2, although it could be a monarch/M... I'd go for it before someone else does... unless of course he paid too much at that estate sale he mentioned and wants a crazy price.

I think it's an E (of course if he took a clear picture, this wouldn't be a debate). Looks like a 10" record on there that is larger than the turntable, and while it's near impossible to tell due to the quality of the picture, it appears to be lacking the decorative trim the M has.

I agree with Zeppy, I think it's an E. It looks too small for an M or 3. It has a bevel gear motor and should be a double spring. When it became a labelled 2 it would have had a spiral gear and 1 spring.

Paid 800, wants 1200. First rule of sales, never tell someone how much you paid for something that you plan to sell.

You're assuming the seller knows what he's talking about, and hasn't misidentified the machine, which isn't out of the question. First off, I am not aware of a Type C that was sent off to foreign countries. If someone else is, I would love more info (I recall hearing of one Victor only for import that had a higher number than 6, but can't seem to recall the details. It was a number, not letter. That much I remember, and I know someone that haunts these boards has one). It certainly doesn't look like the normal (albeit rare) Victor C, which although would have the corner columns and a 7 inch turntable, would also have a srcrew down record hold (here appear to have a nomral spindal, rather than treaded for the hold down, and also was a front mount machine produced (and produced in 1901 also should have a pre-dog tag, no?).

I thought it looked more like an E or maybe a II/2? That's why I asked. I'm just learning about these and looked though what books I have but still couldn't tell for sure and I know there are variations. I called because I was interested but it is quite a distance from me and he said he paid $800.00 and I quess he wants offers.

perhaps. now that I have some books in front of me. US market C is front mount. On a side note, what do you make of the horn?

It almost looks like a Columbia type horn? The back bracket appears really nice and clean.

Folks, I can assure you it is NOT a Canadian type "C". It is without question (case, motor & bracket) a Vic "E". Only the horn is not correct and not Victor. Asking way too much.
