I have a Berliner gramophone which the stylus bar is broken. Can this be repaired ? If not, are there original or reproductions available for purchase. I believe that it maybe a Clark-Johnson soundbox with a "J" designation.

OJZ, I'm sorry to say and to the best of my knowledge....no one is making repro "J's" or parts for them any longer. You are about two years too late. Given the rarity of a Berliner "J".....restoration is very advisable. I would seek a local machinist in your area. I suggest this because, I would be hesitant shipping a rare part out through the post. Without question "repair" is the best choice and have the least affect on it's over all value then having a repro part added.
You can also check Ebay. From time to time "repro" "J's" do turn up. However, some are better made then others and you will have to make certain the bar would fit yours. Last, to find an original "J" loose or even parts would be very difficult........this kind of stuff seldom turns up on the open market. I hope this helps with your question and best of luck to you.

OJZ, that looks like a easy repair of the bar spring. Any good jeweler should be able to silver solder that back almost invisible. There appears to be nothing missing. The number tells me it is a late production "J". I would guess 1900. Here is a pic of the bar spring as it should be.
