A good phono friend called and the conversation was about some of the very late Victrola uprights like the VV-107, VV-350, VV-370, etc. I quickly realized that I was not familiar with those particular models and while we were talking I opened my Victor Data Book and looked them up. For the most part I have never seen most of these machines. These models were available just prior to the introduction of the Orthophonic models. I wonder why Victor manufactured these machines and then deeply discounted them shortly after their introduction. Was it an attempt to use cabinet frames that were originally intended for Period Models or use mechanisms that were already in stock. Does anyone have an opinion about these late pre-orthophonic uprights? I have not personally tried to locate them for my collection. Do any of you actively search for this niche in the Victrola line? We all know that rarity does not always equate to a high price but I would appreciate any opinions on late Victrola uprights. Thanks, Jerry Blais

I seem to recall seeing one of these at the Union show once, but not sure when. I think it was a VV 360. I wish I had taken a picture of it.

Opinions? I buy machines that appeal to me as a collector of vintage technology, but not as an investment. Unlike some folks on this board, I do not buy with the intent of selling the machine a short time later at a profit. Performance wise, these machines would sound similar to other upright Victrolas. I already have several uprights that are more interesting from a style and technology standpoint, and being limited on space, I won't be buying one of these.

I too buy based on appeal and if unusual. To me every upright sounds about the same and one or two decent examples (if you have the real estate) in ones collection should just about cover that area of collecting. Mind you there are some that would love to have a house full of these...... .

I think that when collectors buy uprights they like the sort that are easily identified as Victrolas. The late ones look like quality furniture with just a whisper of (victrola)

Estott, I think you're right. A year ago I would have passed right by this Victrola 10-35, thinking it to be just a nice sideboard. Bob

Yes, I personally would not have a standard upright (X, XI, XIV, XVI and so on) as they define Victrola. I love the looks of the 350 and 360 and am actively on the hunt for one. I love the hunt. I have so far located one in Minnesota but the price is higher than I'm willing to pay. I'll keep looking tho. I have found several console versions (400/405) but those pose any interest to me.

I have a VV-350 and I like that it has a different look then what you normally see plus when I found mine at auction, it was a super deal and I couldn't pass it up.

I'll trade you my 1959 Edsel in Sea Foam green for your VV-350. Ummm...wait. The Edsel is the vehicle I haul my Victrolas home with. I guess I spoke out of turn
