Hello, this is my first post on this forum; we are a french family collecting phonographs from around the world since somewhat 40 years and I cannot resist to show you what we just found: a Phrynis with asymetrical horn ... during a yard sale (vide grenier). Ok, it will need a lot of TLC and time to get it in good shape but sometimes it's worth to get up early in the morning! May be in a lot of years I will post a pic when it will be restored...

So the early bird caught the worm???... . What a great find and after (as you wrote) a little TLC....it will be fantastic. This asymmetrical horn design just POPS out at you. Congratulations and welcome to the forum.

I've just acquired one of these beauties for myself, however, it will be some time before I post pictures, if indeed I ever do should I decide to return it, as the seller's inadequate packing has meant that the case arrived in sixteen different pieces! I need to negotiate with the seller about the fair price to pay for it in the received state. Are there any "Rule Of Thumb" ratios to apply to eBay items received broken in pieces? The horn is ok but nothing spectacular. It certainly is not as good as our friend's example pictured above. This is the fourth item I've purchased from French eBay in a row that has arrived in a damaged state due to shoddy packing. And I used to think it was just US and UK sellers on eBay who were complete muppets. It appears I was wrong. They are everywhere!

I have ordered a few things from eBay.fr and all were damaged as well, very unusual. One was a dozen Pathé brown wax cylinders, the seller threw them all in a plastic shopping bag, unprotected, and then threw the bag in a box with plenty of room to spare, and no bubble wrap, paper, etc. Obviously I received a box full of wax dust by the time it got to the US. Two survived, and one of those 2 was moldy! I was unable to get a refund, as the seller was not willing to work with me, and eBay wanted me to pay to ship back the box of wax shards which was almost as expensive as I paid for the cylinders, so I'd still be out that money. I just took the loss.

Sorry to hear your machine was so badly damaged. I hope you are able to work it out with the seller.

Love the entire thing, but I am particular fond of the graphics on the reproducer!
