Phonoton 1027 - Berlin, 1941

Another proof that Jazz wasn't dead at all even during the dark years in Germany. Of course, "Hallo Benny" is an obvious appreciation for Benny Goodman. And this was already too subtle for the census to find out...

Thanks for these two sides, also...am I correct in translating ‘Segelfoxtrott’ as ‘Sailing Foxtrot’?

Exactly, David. Your German is much better than you admit! ;)

Great tune Norman. "Hello Benny" is just great. You always seem to be able to turn up these great disks - which given the turmoil of the late war and the post war years its amazing that any disks from this period survive at all...let along in this condition.

Just listening to the second tune now.....another great one...isn't it amazing that both these recordings sound so american!
