I just bought an almost complete set of red seal victor records with the opera Rigoletto, complete with the book and a RCA Victor play script book (complete with which record it is on. This a beautiful set. The books are in fairly nice shape, and the records are almost new, but I am missing the first one. Does anyone know where I might find this? I think it would be 9525-A

If nobody here has it, you might want to set up a saved search on eBay.

May I know the names of the singers in that recording? (I can't come up with any name of the great tenors in that time frame who might have recorded the full Rigoletto for Victor. Antonio Cortis? Tito Schipa?)

I just played one of the records all the way through, and just realized that although the written play is in English, I don't think the recording is...

I see. The recording was made in Italy. But the recording of a full opera made in 1928 is still very valuable.

Not especially valuable--that set was in print for many, many years (well into the 1940s), and has been reissued quite a few times since. It's mainly intersting, from a vocal record collector's perspective, as the Gramophonic debut of Lina Pagliughi, who was only 19 when she recorded the role (Gilda). She had a wonderful recording (and performance) career well into the 1950s.

I really don't care what the value is. I only bought it because it was interesting, and I got it with two other books of records for $10, all in excellent condition. I just want to make it complete again.

I am kinda glad that it is a bit more common, that should make it easier to find the missing record

About 10 years ago on eBay, I bought (for $25; was a local seller, so I drove out to pick it up) a set of this album in automatic sequence. I gave it as a gift to a friend with a 10-50, as I found it (and still find it) rather laborious to listen to such a beast on a manual play phonograph. I did, a few times, on a Viva-tonal 601 I had at the time. I miss that Columbia!
