Hello. I haven't really considered it an option, but does anyone know how to ship oversized phonographs at a reasonable price? I have this Mammut in the Yankee trader section and on ebay, and there have been numerous pleas to ship it. The UPS store wants my first born along with a fortune to ship this thing.

I've used this "blanket freight" company a couple of times and have been very satisfied. Their trucks drive around the US, picking up and dropping off shipments on a regular schedule. It can be slower than the premium shippers, but for me the rates are very reasonable. They're good at keeping the sellers and buyers informed during the process.

Your Mammut should really be crated, if you want it to be assured of reaching its buyer. Remember that shipping insurance will under ordinary circumstances not pay if an inadequately packed parcel is damaged, and that under US commercial law the SELLER retains sole responsibility for an item until it reached the doorstep of the buyer.

That said, a machine such as your Mammut should not cast more than a couple hundred dollars to have professionally crated. You could do it yourself for less than fifty dollars, assuming that you purchased all new materials. I can give you pointers on proper packing, if you need them, having shipped hundreds of radios and phonographs all over the world, ranging from a Columbia Type A graphophone (Washington) shipped to Moscow, a Victrola 10-50 to Norway, and a couple dozen Credenzas to Japan and Hong Kong.
