Acoustic recording studio Ca. 1925

This is the Gennett studio in NY City, taken while members of the New York Philharmonic were recording the Ginn Music Education records. Henry Hadley is the conductor. (from Music Appreciation in the Schoolroom 1926)

And I once argued with an audio engineer that in fact they did use more than one horn in an acoustic session. I needed this pic to clinch it!

This is very late in the acoustic era- possibly they might have had valves to reduce the input of selected horns when needed. I've got a record of selections from The Nutcracker from one of these sessions- it's very very clear.

While the pictures are intriguing, one really wonders what is really behind that suspicious curtain. I did a little a research of my own and found out..... You can see where the horns come through

and with this UK G&T recording room c,1908, i bet recording in the winter was a treat!!!, its basically a shed!!

Wow, what great photos! I knew it was cramped, but I didn't realise it was *that* cramped!
