Here are some photos of a cabinet that I bought at Union. (Thanks Bruce J.) Can anyone give me an idea on the shape of the shelves that mount to the doors on this cabinet? How many cylinders go on each door shelf? Can anyone provide a photo of a complete cabinet? Thanks, Jerry

Well, I guess that answers that one...!!
Makes sense now as to why the doors are shaped that way..
Definately a different way of storing discs... though probably not that different at the time that it was built..
A picture really is worth a thousand words I guess...lol..
Looks like it was never originally a cylinder cabinet...
Good thing that we all have our digital pics archived for times like this!
Someone did a real good job of fabricating the shelves..

Is it possible that it was offered in both cylinder and disc configurations?

The cabinet was offered in both disk and cylinder configuration. My cabinet has spots on the doors that indicate each door had three shelves for cylinder storage. I am hoping for a photo showing the shape of the door shelves and the number of cylinders each one holds. Thanks, Jerry

check page 201, image 4-82 in "Antique Phonographs Accessories & Contraptions" ISBN 0764317636
It's show a little of the interior, but not enough to make a pattern.

Many cabinets of the same outward appearance were configured for disk records, cylinder records or even sheet music. Jerry

Looks like the pegs were 4 sided concave rather than round. That is pretty cool. Sorry I cannot help you on a pattern!

Thanks Retrograde for pointing me towards the Paul / Fabrizio book. Their books should be on every phono-nerd's book shelf. After looking at the photo, I could not tell if the door shelves had the funny star shaped pegs. It looked to me like there were only cylinder boxes. Also, I could not tell the shape of the shelves. I did learn that the funny shaped pegs allowed the owner to store cylinders in their boxes between pegs or store their cylinders on the pegs. It's a great idea! Thanks, Jerry

I'm making progress on my record cabinet thanks to David R. from Texas. He not only had some correctly shaped stock material for the pegs but he cut them to length for me. Plus, he sold me enough to do the entire cabinet. There are so many great collectors in our hobby. Thanks, Jerry
