Hello,

I found a floor model Victor VV-X at a local garage sale. I haven't bought it because they're asking $450 which is a little more than I can afford right now. They might come down in price tomorrow though, and I might offer a trade. The cabinet is in immaculate condition, and the nickel plating on the tone arm and reproducer is bright and shiny with no sign of tarnish. The reproducer appears to have new white gaskets in it. Since it looks like a lot of attention was paid to those couple of items, I'm assuming the motor is likely in good condition also. Do you all know what a good going price for this machine would be?

Thanks!!
Tim

It sounds to me like someone put $200 of work into a $200 machine and now wants to recover their investment. I personally couldn't imagine paying more than $150-$200 tops for a VV-X. With a little patience you should be able to find a decent VV-X or VV-XI on Craigslist for $100 or so.

Then again, I like to do a little work on a machine. I recently bought an XI for $75 and it plays very well. I had to reglue some veneer and rebuild the No. 2 reproducer, but otherwise it's in good shape. If you're not into working on the machines, you may be willing to pay a bit more than I am.

I think if you are looking for a machine that is in top condition, both appearance and performance, you should be willing to pay between $200 to $300. If you enjoy tinkering, look for a easy project for much less. Jerry Blais
