I recently purchased another Brunswick model 35, this one in mahogany. I was comparing the 2 machines and noticed that there are a couple of differences. I contacted Rolland Wakeman and he was very helpful sorting it out. The mahogany machine is the earlier of the two. It has no medallion that lists the model and serial number. It also has a wood motor board, a different automatic brake and a brass arm. The walnut machine has a medallion, metal motor board and pot metal arm. Mr. Wakeman also said the model was first called the style 35 and then became the model 135. He has also written a book on the Brunswick machines but has yet been unable to find a publisher. Hopefully he'll be able to get it published.

Pictures of the motor boards and automatic brake. I know you don't see this model too often but I wonder how many years it was available and how many were actually sold. Guess we will never know.

The mahogany one was found much closer to home but the walnut one is my favorite and was well worth the long trip.

Nice Brunswicks! I would take one of those in either mahogany or walnut - not picky. I recently got bitten by the Brunswick bug when I helped a friend get his running. Last week I picked up a complete Ultona tone arm/reproducer - all brass with dual head. Now I just need a machine to put it on.

I gotta pay a little closer attention , these are both handsome machines.

I had to replace the tone arm on the walnut machine with a brass one. The pot metal one was in pieces. They really are nice machines. These are the first Brunswicks for me and I'm impressed with what ever they used to grease the motor springs as both machines run very smooth. I've also found that you can play the newer 78's by moving the weight to the back which puts very little weight on the reproducer. (normal position to play 78's with the Ultona reproducer is with the weight to the front)
