AFAIK, it's not a tune from the traditional New Orleans repertory, at least I've never heard of it (and I've listened to a whole lot of this stuff over the years, but by no means all of it), so I guess the short answer to your topic question is "no." Anybody have more info?

I know, it was a joke. it's the opening theme song from the hbo series that's based on the game of thrones books, which themselves are recent and still being written (I thought the slate article made that clear). I just thought this reinterpretation of that song was pretty inventive and authentic to the sound, particularly when compared to what the original song - played at the start of each hbo episode - actually sounds like. and I'd still like to hear this version on 78 or, better yet, cylinder.

For shame, Brian, taking advantage of an old man like me!
Just shows how far out of touch I am with current TV. About 90% of my viewing is Public TV and old movies on TCM. I'm not even following the pathetic Phillies this season. Maybe the Eagles (football, not pop music) if they show signs of life in the fall.

Brian, love it, it's so perfect. Thanks for posting! I would love to have that on 78. Henry, the original is very sweeping/epic/Hans Zimmer-ish. The show is so confusing for me, wifey has to explain most of it to me ... but it definitely has some great dramatic scenes.
