Help with crank, victor v

HI everyone,

First off, I want to thank everyone for be open to answering my questions, as I am new to phonograph collecting. This is my first phonograph, so I have lots to learn.

I recently purchased an original condition victor v.

Where the crank fits into the cabinet there is a small plate with two screws that outline the crank hole. When the phonograph is playing a record, the plate and screws start to come lose. I can push the screws and plate back into place but they do not stay, when the record keeps playing. I opened the inside and looked to right of the cabinet to see if the screws were supposed to attached to something but they just go into the wood.

Two questions:

Is the something on the inside that the two screws are supposed to connect to or do they go through the wood, as is?

Would like be a difficult thing to fix, and I want to keep it as original as possible?

Welcome. To answer your question. The crank hole has what is call an escutcheon plate and is indeed held by two screws.

Over years of cranking....the holes the screws are in can get loose. You can use a small piece of toothpick with some carpenter glue placed in those holes to allow the screws to secure tighter when you screw them back in place. Problem solved... .
