Question on Victrola motor?

Post by flashpanblue »

Hello,
Can anyone tell me if a motor from a Victrola X will fit into a Victrola XI?
Thanks
Pete

Pete,

I think the answer to your question will be "it depends upon which two variants you're dealing with." If the X and XI in question were manufactured during a period when the same motor was being used in both, you should be fine. Otherwise, they may be incompatible.

Try placing the motorboard of the X into the XI and see if everything lines up. If you're fitting the X motor to the XI motorboard, this may be trickier.

Check The Victor Data Book for the serial number ranges of both machines and see if they were using the same components.

Here's another resource for you, although it doesn't specify particular motors to particular model Victrolas because of the changes made over the years:

Good luck! :)

Hello,
The reason I am thinking of replacing the motor in my VV-XI is because it has a bent spindle which causes the turn table to wobble. My machine is VV-XI #219402J according to the Victor data book the motor is Double spring 1 ¼ X 18 ½ spiral quad cut. I have found a VV-X for sale that is in such bad shape that it is only good for parts. The serial # is 338100G. The data book says that it has the same size motor. I am thinking that this might just work??? Thoughts??

If the motor is compatible, might it be simpler just to replace the spindle?

Hi Bill,
You are right! Just replacing the spindle would be a better idea as I know the rest of my motor is in good shape.
