Actually, the "Lone Ranger Theme" is Rossini's William Tell Overture. But the Light Cavalry is a comparable chestnut...JohnM wrote:The first Victor 12" discs were named 'Deluxe Records'. This is 31095 'Light Cavalry Overture' (aka, the Lone Ranger theme) by Sousa's Band. VG $20

A bit off-topic, but here's a great musical trivia question: What instrument plays the first note in the William Tell Overture?drh wrote:Actually, the "Lone Ranger Theme" is Rossini's William Tell Overture. Depends on where you start it. The Lone Ranger theme, with the trumpet call, comes deep into the overture, at the beginning of the so-called "Storm Scene." But the actual beginning of the overture proper starts with a big 'cello solo.

Comes with the territory. As often as I've heard it, and played it in the orchestra, I had to consult my LP recording (von Karajan and the Berlin Phil.) to refresh my memory!
