Columbia Q - determining age ?

Post by De Soto Frank »

I was visiting a friend's antique booth at a local indoor flea-mart today, and was checking-over a Columbia Q that he has had for a long time.

I was looking for a serial number, but couldn't find one.

The latest patent date stamped on the end-plate from which the cylinder goes-on, is 1897.

The latest date on the gold "Banner" decal on the lid is also 1897.

Is there a serial number on this machine, or is patent dating as close as we get ?

It is in nice condition, with an original aluminum horn...

The serial number should be stamped on the front edge of the metal baseplate if it's the first model Q. If it's a second model and has a cast, black-painted base, check the top edge of one of the motor plates. :)
