I'm not known for being the smartest guy around sometimes (or so I'm told anyway) But I was shocked that this Victor V data plate sold for over $132 on Ebay. Congrats to the seller but I didn't think it would go for that. I've seen others go for between $20 and $25 most of the time. Is there anything special about this data plate?

I don't know... but I've seen a Victor V sell for well over $1,500 on Ebay. it didn't come with horn nor elbow and worst someone shot a .38 bullet in the base molding.
sometimes you can't understand what's in the buyer's mind.

I was following this, too. I checked the bidders and they weren't newbies. Two bidders wanted it really bad and there was a bidding war. Most of the time, these ID plates for out side horn Victors average around $50-60 bucks.

I can only guess someone really needed one to finish a project and hadn't been able to find one. (No, not me.) I've seen many data plates at shows and on eBay but never paid close attention. Maybe Victor V plates don't turn up often as compared to other models.
I know that if I want something badly and get outbid, the next time I have a chance I get much more aggressive. I'd wager that's what happened here. All it takes is two people and you have a bidding war.
It might be interesting to track how long it takes until another Victor V plate shows up.

I don't think it's that unreasonable. I've seen the data plates for the lower end models go from $50 to $75, and those don't come up very often. Pre-nippers on the higher end. Personally, I paid $200 for a Vic 6 dataplate...(and $50 for an early VTLA plate, and I think $20 for a 3 digit serial number plate for a XI tabletop). I think it's the only one I've ever seen come up on ebay. My have seen a 5 come up once, if that. And I know I've seen cases come up on ebay without data plates. You never know when one will be needed either....heck if I wanted to, between the spare parts I have in my basement, and a $750 repro case, and a few other odds and ends, I could build a Vic 6 for under $2k.
These things are tough to find.

Well said. The other major factor here is "these things are tough to find"...... "loose".Zeppy wrote: These things are tough to find.
