Shame about that broken / missing spandrel from the grille...

I noticed the lack of "record-rest strips" on the deck, and assumed this was an "early" 4-door, but the s/n is in the 25,000 block ?

As far as I know, machines designated as "Credenza" never had the record racks in the playing compartment area. Every 8-30 I've seen and owned has had them though.

George V has grill parts for Credenzas, so replacing that spindle should be easy. I had one with a broken spindle like that years back and bought one from George. I blended the finish and gave it some toned lacquer, fitted it in (there are small dowels that hold them in) and that was that. I had a tough time later remembering which one I had replaced.

I wouldn't let that be a deterrent here. This example has a nice cabinet otherwise and could possibly even have a brass reproducer.

At least this one has intact grille cloth...

My two-door has intact grille frame but two huge gashes in the fabric...

I THINK my two-door might be in the 3000 s/n block... plate was missing, but I found a four-digit number stamped into the inside of the back-panel, in the 3600 range... I'm hoping this might be a serial # ?

Hopefully this beast in H-burg will find a good home !

In what year and at what serial # (approximately) did the designation change from "Credenza" to 8-30 with off-set turntable and record rack?

If this is missing the record rests I probably have a set. If they are missing, and one of you wins it and needs them drop me a message. I think the ones I've seen with the rests have the turntable offset to the right.

The ones with a record rack would have to have the offset turntable. A record will not fit on either side of the turntable on one where it is centered. I've never seen a "Credenza" with the rack, as I said. I think the VDB gives a pretty close timeline on all of this, but I'm not home to check.

Mine has the record racks and the I.D. tag reads "Credenza", so there were a number of transitions. I have seen machines with the off-set platter and no rails; machines that were not meant to have them, obviously, as there were no drill holes where the screws might have been.
