Interesting Cylinder Repeater

There's a cool looking cylinder phonograph repeater attachment up on ebay:

The person selling it has pulled it off the machine upon which it was found, sort of, and is auctioning it separately:

But there's a problem: he/she has left at least a couple of parts of the repeater on the phono.

That's a pickle that isn't for us to resolve (although I wrote to the seller and tried to help fix things, and got no response).

But who can tell us about the repeater, what it's called, and how it works - or even show a picture of how it looks installed? Is it in any of the Fab/Pau books?

it would have been interesting if the seller sold the machine with the whole repeater or if he at least could sell all parts of the repeater together.
IMHO the best would have been to sell the repeater with the machine, especially if the guy doesn't know what he's doing which is obviously the case.

oh well, I hope someone wins both listings.

The attachment is a Model "J" repeater and is from 1907 or 08 and the majority of these you see are for the Edison Home. It is pictured in the Fabrizio/Paul Gadgets and Gizmos book ( I don't have a page # since I'm not at home.) I have one for a Triumph. I would love to know if anyone else has one on a Triumph as I haven't heard so yet. I'd add a pic, but the phonograph springs are getting re-greased.

The attachment is at least missing the two adjustable thin metal rods that control where the cylinder starts and stops. I think the pulley is missing as well. This repeater uses a string to pull the phonograph carriage back to the starting point.

Because it retains two parts of the J repeater that the schmuck removed from it and is offering separately.

I talked to a collector who has a Home and a Triumph with this repeater. He said that the machine has to be set up specifically for this repeater to work. He indicated that the carriage is different and the other parts left on the machine are necessary to make this complete... otherwise it's useless.
