BC-34 from CL with Records Wrapped in 1944 Newspapers

Just brought home a collection of about 100 or so Diamond Disc records with the purchase of great grandma's Edison BC-34 phonograph from storage. They were wrapped in Dec 24, 1944 newspaper. Don't suppose granny got a new phonograph for Christmas..??

Got a few good early jass/jass and a lot of Jauda's Orchestra stuff. Also a few classical and a couple interesting 'red star' labels. No 52000 series, though.

And the phono worked great! $200 well spent.

Had she been playing the same records for over 15 years? (the BC-34 was not listed after August 1927)…

Here are the pics of the BC34. The horn neck and the reproducer are striped, 2 each alternating gold and grey. Not sure I've seen that before.

Also a couple pics of the 1944 newspaper wrapping.

Thanks! Looks like a great console! Mine looks just like yours except mine has the small no. 100 horn. That means mine is an early model from 1923, buy I do have the typewriter keys. Thanks for showing the 1944 newspaper! That's back when everybody read the paper. Nowadays most people just stare at their cell phones!

This new one has serial number 52065, well in to production. It also has the A stamp on the stylus bar. That and the striped horn neck and reproducer make this an unusual machine, I think.

Cliff, thanks for sharing. Do you know if this would have been the original grill cloth? If yes, could you please post a close up picture of it, for future shopping reference? I always thought Edison grill cloths did not have a pattern, but this one looks well aged...
