Hey George and Barb- So sorry to hear about Jack! The critters do have a way of becoming family! :) I love the picture of Jack pulling your books! Looks like a great dog... lots of good memories.

Such a sad thing, to lose one's canine companion, and it's a loss that stings for a while. My condolences to you both, George and Barb. Looks like a number of us on here have had pets that we loved in our lives at some point. I've had and lost a few over the years, it never got any easier, especially when it became apparent that they weren't going to be with me forever (although having the vet living nearby and coming by for the final moments was a huge help).

So sorry to hear about this. It can be as difficult as loosing any other family member. RIP Jack.

I can't express how much these condolences, public and private, have meant to Barbie and me. I thank Fran for his thoughtful gesture in making the original post, and to all of you for your kind words. I must admit that I didn't anticipate Jack's loss to have this much effect on me.

Jack was really Barbie's dog - he'd follow her around all over the house. Those of you with dogs know the drill. But when she wasn't home, I was the surrogate who always had a dog at my feet. For 14 years we became used to having him with us. Sometimes we each took Jack to work, and his sweet-tempered friendliness lent a bit of cheer to the public school where Barbie works, to the offices where I used to work, and after my retirement, to the bike shop where Jack greeted everyone who entered. Our house and the world seem a little bit empty now.

In closing, here's a photo of Jack in his prime at age 6; eyes sparkling and a smile on his face. He would have enjoyed meeting all of you! :)

Thanks again to all,

George P.

Sorry for your loss George and Barb.
I do hope you'll give your love to another of God's beautiful little people, just like Jack.

Jack does look adorable. I know from experience that dogs have a way of working themselves into your heart and loosing them can be tough. But it is worth it as they add so much to our lives while they are with us.
